Beneath the Lake

A CLOUD EMPRESS WINTER ADVENTURE
Long ago, Lake Beryl provided the villages on its shores with bountiful harvests. Those days are past. The kelp has mostly withered away and the villages have fallen to sodden ruin. All are uninhabited save one, which houses the lonely Silas Lackerly.
But this winter—the one before the Century Brood—provided the old farmerling with something almost like a miracle. A blue glow began to radiate from the depths of the frozen lake, captivating Silas and drawing him to it. He found a broken shovel in the ruins of his village and began to dig through the ice. Six inches, a foot, three feet, eight feet. Silas kept digging, never hitting water—and the azure gleam continued to pulse from below, tantalizingly out of reach but drawing him ever deeper.
The blue glow of Lake Beryl has also drawn the attention of a baron from Omega City, who will do anything to restore the luster to his family's diminished name. As he tries to figure out his next move, a band of adventurers wanders into the village...
